World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. To be held in the U.S. and the U.K. on April 23, 2012, tens of thousands of people will go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out World Book Night free paperbacks.

You can volunteer to be a book giver and share your passion for a book you love. Sign up now to be a book giver. Thank you for your support of books and reading, bookstores and libraries.

I love to read. This sounds like so much fun! 50,000 people will be chosen through an application process to hand out a total of 1 million books in their communities. There is a list of 30 books that you can choose from in your application. The application deadline is Feb. 1, 2012.

Books must be given to light or non-readers, not frequent readers. You must also be at least 16 to apply and you must be able to pick up your 20 book copies at your local bookstore or library.
